International House of Pancakes
In 2008, the International House of Pancakes celebrates its 50th birthday. That is fifty years without skipping a breakfast! To celebrate this event, IHOP is hitting the road in the IHOP Discovery Tour which includes a new menu, prizes and special appearances at select baseball games.
The restaurant is best known for its breakfast menu which includes many items containing fresh fruit and other quality ingredients. The restaurants include diner fare for lunch and dinner.
The first IHOP opened in Toluca Lake in 1958. The comapny began franchising in 1960 and went public under the name International House of Pancakes in 1961. In 1973, the company officially began marketing itself with the bouncy initials IHOP and continued its gradual expansion. In 2001, IHOP opened its 1000th restaurant in Layton, Utah. In November 2007, IHOP purchased the Applebees chain of restaurants. In 2008, the company changed its corporate name to DinEquity and trade on the NYSE with the symbol DIN. The IHOP indicates that 99% of the restaurant chain are franchised owned and that they hope to transition Applebees with the same locally owned structure.
